Hi Croatian learners! 😊

Take some time to dive into these other pages after completing this lesson: City & Sports.

Education System in Croatia[edit | edit source]

Before diving into the vocabulary related to education, it's important to understand the education system in Croatia. Education in Croatia is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 15, and it's divided into primary, secondary and tertiary education.

  • Primary Education - Osnovna škola (Elementary School)
  • Secondary Education - Srednja škola (High School)
  • Tertiary Education - Fakultet (College/University)

Generally, students start primary school at six years old and finish it after eight years of study. After that, they can move on to secondary education, which lasts from four to six years depending on the chosen program. Finally, upon completion of secondary education, students can apply to colleges and universities that offer a vast range of programs and fields of study.
