February | Otsaila | From Otso (wolf), therefore month of the wolf |
March | Martxoa | The etymologically Basque version is to be compared to Epaitu (mown) and Epaile (mower), a reference to the month of pruning ... (trees and plants). |
edo Epaila | ||
April | Apirila | Jorrail is to be compared to Jorratu (weeded), so month of weeding ... to your tools and to the weeds! |
edo Jorraila | ||
May | Maiatza | Loreil de Lore (flower), therefore flower month |
edo Loreila | ||
June | Ekaina | Probably comes from Eguzki or the souletin Eki (sun), and Gain (top). It is indeed the month of the summer solstice. |
July | Uztaila | from Uzta (harvest, harvest), therefore harvest month |
August | Agorrila | From Agor (dry), therefore drought month |

September | Iraila | To be compared to Iratze (fern), so fern month |
October | Urria | To be compared with Urri (rare, insufficient), therefore probably months of the scarcity ... of products of nature. |
November | Azaroa | To be compared with Hazi (seed) and Aro (weather ... it is), therefore seed period |
December | Abendua | Abendu + aro, Advent period |
edo Lotazilla | Lotazil is to be compared with Lotu (attached, but also ... taken root) and hazi (seed) or hozitu (germinated), so germination month |
