Bashkir Vocabulary - Colors

Hi Bashkir learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn the colors in Bashkir language. Color is an essential part of our life, we use it to express our feelings, emotions, to represent different things, and also to describe the world around us. Let's start with the basics. Basic Colors[edit | edit source]

Here are the basic colors in Bashkir:

Bashkir Pronunciation English
ҡара qara black
аҡ äq white
саҡ saq gray
шәрәҡ şäräq red
яшел yaşel green
жырты jırty yellow
көк kök blue

For example, to describe a black cat, we say "ҡара мыңа" (qara mıñа).

Let's practice some basic colors with a dialogue:

  • Person 1: ҡара. (qara)
  • Person 2: Аҡ. (äq)
  • Person 1: Яшел. (yaşel)
  • Person 2: Көк. (kök)
  • Person 1: Шәрәҡ. (şäräq)
  • Person 2: Саҡ. (saq)
  • Person 1: Жырты. (jırty)

Here are some additional colors in Bashkir:

For example, to describe a purple flower, we say "бәйрәм гөл" (bäyrem göl).

Let's practice some additional colors with a dialogue:

  • Person 1: Бәйрәм. (bäyrem)
  • Person 2: Ғылым. (ğılım)
  • Person 1: Фиолетовый. (fioletovıy)
  • Person 2: Мәҡәү. (mökäw)
  • Person 1: Синий. (siniy)
  • Person 2: Милый. (miliy)

In Bashkir, we can also use color combinations to describe objects or things. Here are some examples:

Bashkir Pronunciation English
ҡара-мәҡәү qara-mökäw black-brown
шәрәҡ-ғылым şäräq-ğılım red-orange
көк-яшел kök-yaşel blue-green

For example, to describe a black and brown horse, we say "ҡара-мәҡәү ат" (qara-mökäw at).

Idioms and Expressions[edit | edit source]

Colors are not only used to describe things, but also in idioms and expressions. Here are some examples in Bashkir:

ҡара дүңү qara düñü to be angry
шәрәҡ гөҙә şäräq göðä to be in love
яшел өлгө yaşel ölgö to feel envy

For example, we use the expression "шәрәҡ гөҙә" (şäräq göðä) to describe a person who is in love.
