Today's lesson is all about the four seasons in Amharic. In Amharic culture, seasons are also celebrated through various holidays and festivals.

In this lesson, we will cover the four seasons. You will learn how to pronounce each word correctly, and how to use them in sentences to describe different aspects of each season.

the 4 seasons in Amharic - ወቅት : wäqt - seasons[edit | edit source]

  • Kiremt or Meher (Summer) - June, July and August are the summer season. Heavy rain falls in these three months.
  • Belg (Autumn) - September, October and November are the spring season sometime known as the harvest season.
  • Bega (Winter) - December, January and February are the dry season with frost in morning specially in January.
  • Tseday (Spring) - March, April and May are the autumn season with occasional showers. May is the hottest month in Ethiopia.

ጸደይ : ts'edeyi, ምንጭ : Metsew Spring
በጋ : Bega Summer
በልግ : Beligi Autumn, (Fall)
ክረምት : Kəremətə Winter

Kiremt or Meher (Summer)
Kiremt ke Ethiopia keessatti roobni cimaan roobama. - In Ethiopia, heavy rain falls during the summer season.
Belg (Autumn)
Belg keessatti biqiltuun dagaagaa jiru. - In autumn, the plants are growing.
Bega (Winter)
Bega keessatti, halkan keessaa qorra jira. - In winter, there's frost at night.
Tseday (Spring)
Tseday keessatti roobni xiqqoo ni roobama. - In spring, there's occasional rainfall.
