”Amor” is the noun for love.
”Yo amo” = ”I love”. Is the conjugation of the verb ”amar”

”Amo a María” (I love María).
If you write it like this ”El amó a María” (He loved María) you’re using Amo in past tense.
”El amor es maravilloso” (Love is wonderful.
