About a Hindi Name and use of JI

Is Ramji a common and acceptable name? I was given this name by my guru (Indian). He passed away a few years ago. An Indian friend told me it should be Ram and that ji is used when addressing elders ... yet I see this a fairly common name Indians use in identifying themselves.
Dhanyavad :)

Ji is used to show respect, it is used in formal setting or with elders,
for instance , if someone's name is vijay, so to show respect, you can add ji , then it will become Vijay ji, in pronoun aap is used to show respect. Ji is always used with noun, it can be used noun such as fater, pita ji or uncle chacha ji. Ram is very common, many people have that name. Depending on settings, people use it with or without Ji. For instance uncle's younger brother's name is Ram, he does not call him Ram Ji, he simply calls him Ram.
I hope it helps .
