Duc_March 2022 In English one would say: ”There is absolutely no way”. The gar (in this context) cannot be translated literally, it’s an enhancement of the negation. And it’s the short form of ”sogar” (even). Thus in english one could say: ”There is not only no way, there is absolutely no way.” Gives this an idea of this phraseology? |
EVA51March 2022 Thank you!
Mi00kyJanuary 2024 It means something like ”not in any case”. ”Gar” is something that makes the following stronger. It is barely used nowadays. One other still common use would be: ”gar nicht” which makes not (nicht) to not at all (gar nicht). |
