TadeeMarch 2020 I am complete beginner at German, I am writing an informal letter and I don't know how to use past tense. Should I rather stick to present tense somehow? |
BennoniApril 2020 Yeah thats maybe a good idea then. For the football example you should use present tense, because you are still not playing, it does affect the present. See my 3 examples above, only the one in the middle is in past, i would choose the first one as it is the most used by far. The normal past tense is quite easy, for example ich spiele becomes ich spielTE, ich will - ich wollte, ich mache - ich machte, sie macht - sie machte. But there are lots of irregular ones too on the other hand. Like ich komme - ich kam, ich weiß - ich wusste
Duc_April 2020 Then it should be otherwise quite clear that your letter describes the past: "Yesterday: I am going along the street" -> Gestern: Ich gehe die Straße entlang." Oh, pardon. They killed nearly the ß. Its now "Strasse", god knows, why.
