Wood is the material that trees are made of. So, a door can be wood, a table, tree banch... A forest is a large group of trees together. Sometimes a slang term for forest is "woods". It is normally used when referring to a forest that is close by. Example: "I'm going to the woods to collect berries" "I'm going to the forest to collect berries" It is essentially the same, just one is more proper
