To embrace sth - the metaphorical meaning is to substantially support sth and devote significant efforts towards achieving it. Usually that ”sth” is an idea, ideology or a cause.

This is the most common usage for ”sth”. Examples might be ”to embrace a political idea/cause” and so on. You support and fully believe in that idea as well as actively work towards it such as working in political organisations or attending protests.

It’s possible ”to embrace sth” literally, just as you can ”embrace sb” by wrapping your arms around sth and holding it tight, such as ”to embrace a tree” - but this is relatively rare usage.
