I would avoid the use of the word ”certification” when describing a diploma. The basic difference between a certification and a diploma is that a certification is a document given for passing a specific course or set of courses in a very narrow area or skill whereas a diploma is a much broader range of areas in a course.

For example, if you have studied Microsoft Office with a course in Excel, Office and PowerPoint, then that would be a certification - it’s in the narrow band of using Microsoft Office software.

On the other hand, if you have studied business administration and you had courses in management, accounting, statistics and basic economics, then that would be a diploma - the course comprises a wide range of areas.

Some certifications get described as ”diplomas” when the people giving the courses want to make them sound like a much more serious course of study than they really are smile.gif

Agree: Eschew use of the term ”certification” and stick with ”diploma” or use the term ”degree”.
