What is the meaning of this sentence? "So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking"

The sentence is from the song "time" by Pink Floyd. I have a problem with "sinking" I dont understand the meaning. :c

The implication is that the sun is setting, perhaps for real, perhaps symbolically, but in both instances suggesting that the person "running for something, to reach a certain goal or achievement, etc.", will unlikely ever reach/attain that goal or achievement. It is a statement of a futile effort to achieve a goal, an end, to a life's plan, etc. Thus is can only be understood in an allegorical sense, not in a literal sense.

That feeling when your dream so close to reach, but it's going away at the last moment

Sinking can also mean falling into an emotion or situation

This is so, but in this instance (ie, lyrics of this song) it is NOT intended to convey a "feeling of despondence" or depression, i.e., a "sinking" feeling.
