if it is december 27 what should we tell people? can we say Merry Christmas and Happy new year?

however Christmas is already over ... And we are not in 2020 yet ... So what can we say?

This time in Chinese, we called it ""歲末年終"，and you can say to people"祝你新年快樂! ", like"Wish you happy in the new year!"

To an American or a Brit you can say "I hope you had a Merry Christmas." As for the NY, it is (already, even on 27 Dec.) okay to say "I wish you a Happy New Year." or a variant, e.g., "I hope you have a prosperous New Year.", etc. Such well-wising statements are not necessarily tied to THE EXACT DAY of the holiday; in America, people start greeting each other w/ "Merry Christmas WEEKS before the actual day (i.e., 25 December).
