A "movie" refers to a film.

A "cinema" is the location where you watch a film/movie. This can also be referred to as a "movie theater" (or theatre, as it is spelled in British English)

Additionally, in the vernacular, we may simply refer to a cinema or theater as "the movies."

"Hey Vincent, do you want to go to the movies with us later?"

In this context, "the movies" refers to the location of the theater/cinema.
