There a no real rules to follow. It's mainly phrase structures to remember. 

Examples with TO :

  • "We went from home to the restaurant."
  • "Talk to your friend and get more information about the party."
  • "I go to the office every morning at 10am."
  • "He sold his phone to me for 10€."

Examples with FOR :

  • "I bought this flowers for you."
