janelibraryDecember 2012 i got this from the internet: to support something that you believe in, especially by giving money. or to do something rather than to just talk about it. for example: If people are really interested in helping the homeless they should put their money where their mouth is. |
jamantDecember 2012 I like the phrase" to put their money where their mouth is"
akashicDecember 2012 Hi, I believe in french, a similar expression is, Joindre l'acte à la parole or maybe also, Je suis prêt à honorer ma promesse My french is not the best, but I asked my teacher and she gave me those expressions as examples. Now, as an example, imagine I'm out at a nightclub or bar, and I tell my friends, I can talk to as many girls as i want. Then my friend could say, "really? put your money where your mouth is!" In other words he is saying, "I don't believe you, so show me and then I'll believe you." Does that make sense? |
