    • The company which corporate culture I would like to talk about is called “Tinkoff”.
    • The company has the majority of market share in a wide variety of industries.
  • For example, the company also has insurance products for individuals and investment instruments, services for businesses and organizations, and serves as a mobile operator.
    • Although it’s a state-accredited bank with a large number of the strictest rules that their employees must obey, the company defines itself as not a bank but as an IT-company.
    • Thus, they should have some signs of innovative culture besides stable culture inherent in banking organizations.
    • Let’s have a closer look at how it is presented in five signs of organizational culture: mission statement, stories & language, physical layout, rules & policies, and rituals.
    • Mission statement The mission statement of the organization is: ”Our goal is to provide the best financial services in the world”.
    • They really go to great lengths to build and maintain an entire ecosystem of financial products that are available to their clients online 24/7.
    • They have online customer support and consulting department which is a couple of clicks away in the bank mobile application or web version.
    • Their employees in the support department are well trained and provide their services very quickly.
    • As a client it was very convenient for me to use their debit card, then I started buying insurance from them for travel abroad, and recently I opened a business account in this bank.
    • I find it is convenient for me to receive services in one or two mobile applications with similar interfaces and fast online support instead of going to other banks offline offices, stand in line, and comply with a bunch of formalities related to documents, checks, etc. Stories and language Unfortunately, I don’t know any stories the company uses to empower its employees and engage them with the company’s life and culture.
    • But what I have noticed is that when I did an internship in their sales department and there were a lot of technical words used even by salespersons.
    • As a company which infrastructure is closely tied to computers and cloud technology, I think that knowing all those ”bag”, ”firewall”, ”malware”, ”phishing” and ”SSL” helps employees from different departments to communicate effectively with each other and solve problems quicker.
  • Physical layout The organization is part on location and part remote.
    • In their headquarters in Moscow, they have a development department, design, and sales, but their customers support employees all working remotely from their homes in different cities of Russia.
    • In their headquarters, employees don’t have a dress code and their office is built in a manner of Google offices.
    • In the company canteen, all tables are the same so ordinary workers, managers and even sometimes board members chat with each other over a meal.
    • This helps the employees of this office work in a less stressed and less formal environment, avoid formalities in communication between employees of different levels and departments.
    • Rules and policies The company has a lot of instructions, especially regarding communication with clients and potential clients.
    • Since I know about the rules and policies of the sales department of this company, I will talk about them, but I am sure that in other departments such as the design or development department there are fewer job descriptions and bureaucracy.
    • Any financial and banking activity is strictly controlled by Central Bank of Russia, the employees of such organizations should be very careful when communicating with a client so as not to break the law.
  • All communication with clients takes place in a business manner and according to scripts written by Tinkoff company.
    • For almost any mistake that was noticed by the internal department of quality control of negotiations, the company deducts money from the salary.
    • There are a lot of instructions and during training 99% of the attention is paid precisely to memorizing, understanding, and using them.
    • Workers due to strict rules are less satisfied with their job than if they could show their creativity, but this helps the company to receive fewer lawsuits and complaints.
    • Rituals In the company, they have New Year corporate parties as well as Anniversary parties and other activities for each department where they reward the best employees and recognize their achievements in front of their peers.
    • Also, on Mondays managers gather with employees for a one-hour meeting to discuss plans and goals for a week and on Fridays, they summarize results of the week, what was done good and what needs to be fixed.
  • It helps the company to stay on track to achieve its long-term goals.
