Hello everybody.
Today I want to show you a splendid work of art..
A work I discovered by chance but that I immediately loved.
It’s one of Glenn Brown’s painting.
Glenn Brown is a British artist born in 1966 in Hexham.
He is not very famous, but he receives prizes like the Turner one in 2000 and did a lot of solo exhibitions in several countries.
Like most of his other works, the title of this one refers to literature, film or individuals.
This painting I want to talk to you about is called Daydream Nation as the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth (1988).
It is a portrait from 2017.
It is relatively large in size (112x80 cm) At first glance, it seems simple.
You can see a basic green background behind a little child who is wearing a blue beanie.It looks like he's less than ten years old.
His head is tilted to the right of the painting.
He seems sad, melancholic.
This pictures is made of organic lines which convey an impression of movement and give life to the painting.
The colors are pale and most of them are cool, that contribute to the sadness of the artwork.
But there’s like a glimmer of hope.
The character is paint in warm colors and the detail that catch our eye is the only vivid color of the canvas : the child eyes’.
He is looking forward, towards the future.
And now that we look at this work with a new eye, we can see a new message.
We can see a youth still alive in a dead world, the only one who is able to see the problem and to give active solutions.
This may suggests climate change.
We also find here the album of the band Sonic Youth which is considered as an innovative band which is thinking outside the box.
Some of the songs like « the Sprawl » talk about the dangers of excessive urbanization, sprawl meaning to cover a large area of land with buildings.
Here are the reasons that led me to present this artistic creation to you, simple, elegant but probably with a deeper meaning.
Of course this is my interpretation so I invite you to think about it in order to make yours.
