They wrote the best known works of the movement : the poem “Howl” and the novel “On the Road”.
In the two teasers, there are a lot of allusions to this period, which marked a whole generation.
They represent the ambiance about the Beat Generation thanks to the presence or the allusions of the music jazz, the typewriter, parties, drugs, art and desire of freedom.
The Howl’s teaser shows that the film is inspired by the poem “Howl”, written by Allen Ginsberg in 1955 that is to say 15 years before the film’s release.
The teaser is separated in different parts and alternates between two situations of Allen Ginsberg’s life.
On one hand the character of Ginsberg recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for personal liberation, all these things that have been a source of information for his poem “Howl”, probably the most important work of his career.
Meanwhile, in a courtroom, “Howl” is on trial because when the poem came out some people thought that it was obscene.
This separation is accentuated because there is an alternation between black and white and colours for every different period.
Moreover, one aspect of the teaser which that makes you want to see this movie is the casting with James Franco in the role of Ginsberg.
The other teaser is also a biopic because it is based on the life of Jack Kerouac, which he also tells in his novel.
The work speaks of his journey through the United States he did with his friends, in search of freedom, far from anti-conformist and anti-materialist rules.
There are again allusions to the Beat Generation with the music Jazz, parties and drugs, but also moments of joy and sharing that disappear and leave room for doubts and difficult moments.
Moreover, in an excerpt we see the character of Jack Kerouac write his novel at once, as in reality, with the many leaves attached between them that form a long roll of stories.
Again, the cast is fabulous with Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart.
This trailer gives the viewer the desire to discover the story of these Beat Generation authors, to understand their vision of society at this time.
The tears that succeed the smiles in a brutal way make the audience want to understand where the break comes from and how this story is going to end.
