WHAT is SPEAK DATING?

It is an original and productive way to :

- Practice your foreign languages orally (listening/speaking)

- Meet like-minded individuals from the opposite sex for friendship or more

 

WHEN & WHERE?

Wednesday 14 February 8 pm till 10 pm.

DENFERT Café: 58 bd Saint-Jacques 75014 Paris. Métro: Denfert-Rochereau (lines 4, 6, RER B)

 

HOW is SPEAK DATING organized? 

- GIRLS participating in the Speak Dating activity will receive a free cocktail

- Girl on one side and boy on the other

- Every 6-7 min each boy meets a new girl

- They choose the topic of conversation (personal or not)

- They choose the language (English, French, Spanish or ANY language...)

 

HOW to improve your language speaking skills?

. Make sure you communicate ONLY in the language you want to learn!

. Listen to what your partner has to say.

. Don’t hesitate to correct each other. Peer correction is both easy and effective.

. Avoid spending too much time looking up words in your dictionary. Spontaneity is key!

. Remember: better speak with mistakes… than not speak at all!
 

HOW to improve your SOCIAL skills?

1. Dress appropriately: this is not a job interview… nor a sports event!

2. Smile and be polite: familiarity breeds contempt 

3. Be original: always ready for a good challenge?

4. Maintain eye contact: be self-confident.

5. Let your body do the talking: body-language says more than words!

6. Listen before you speak: s/he will appreciate

7. Listen more than you speak: for monologues, you can stay home 

8. Don’t let the cat out of the bag: don’t say everything at once.

9. Think (and act) positive: always a plus!

10. Read between the lines: non-verbal communication speaks volumes!

11. Play the game: even if you’re bored, keep it up… 3 more minutes till the next interview
