As a Malayalam language teacher with over 20 years of experience, I believe that literature and cinema play a vital role in learning a language. To truly understand the depth and richness of the Malayalam language, it is important to explore its prominent writers and their works. In this lesson, we will delve into some famous Malayalam writers and their contributions to the literary world.

Vaikom Muhammad Basheer

One of the most celebrated writers in Malayalam literature, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer was born in Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam district in 1908. He is known for his simple yet poignant writing style that captures the essence of life in Kerala. Basheer's works often revolve around social and political issues, and his stories and novels have been widely translated into other Indian languages. Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai

Born in Thakazhi in Alappuzha district in 1912, he is known for his realistic and socially engaged writing style that highlights the plight of the marginalized sections of society.
