correct my interview!
- Q: Thank you Santiago for joining us today!
- S: Thank you, for having me!
- Q: Well, after winning the Academy Award for “Best Actor Ever”, what does it feel like to come back to the dawn of your career and tread the boards one more time?
- S: It has been a rejuvenating experience; as you have just suggested, this new project has allowed me to connect back with who I really am as an actor.
- After so many years, being able to perform again in theatres arouses some feelings I thought extinct. Q: What is it?
- What is that which makes acting in a theatre so different from acting in a movie?
- S: Well to me, theatres’ intimacy is what makes them genuine.
- When you face a staring crowd, willing to let you drive their emotions as you please, there’s a connection, an unspoken agreement by which you have the responsibility to make them feel, and that’s what I always aim to.
- Cinema is emotionally powerful as well, but it lacks this proximity.
- Q: Fascinating!
- Well, in the play you embody the good-hearted Mrs. Everett, Ms. Sharman’s close friend.
- How has the process of building the character been?
- S: It has not been easy: at first sight, Mrs. Everett may be seen just as a goofy over-optimistic fellow.
- However, it’s by subtle nuances of his personality throughout the play, that we find a rather complex character.
- A man who also suffers struggles, which doesn’t keep him away from living life with gusto.
- It has required quite some time of inner work, but I’m happy with the result.
- Q: Thank you for everything S: It has been a pleasure.
